Cyclone the storm is projected to become a rare highest-level storm as it veers toward Jamaica, causing life-threatening rapid inundation and rock falls.

This weather system, which recorded winds of up to 120 miles per hour as of 06:00 GMT, is now shifting toward the northwest in the Caribbean Sea and is projected to reach land by Tuesday, based on data from meteorological authorities.

Warnings of power cuts and disruption to utilities have been released as Melissa brings up to thirty inches of precipitation and storm surges as high as 13ft above typical tides. "Find safe refuge immediately," inhabitants have been urged.

This hurricane is the 13th named storm in the ongoing Atlantic season, which usually concludes in the eleventh month.

Category Five Hurricane Risk

A Category 5 storm is the most powerful category, with winds of at least 157 miles per hour.

Even though the hurricane is projected to reduce in intensity to a Category 4 storm before reaching Jamaica, experts said there was "almost no noticeable change in the total effects" upon reaching the coast, and that the hurricane will be "equally strong" when it hits the nation.

"A multi-day period of harmful winds and intense precipitation have begun and will cause catastrophic and life-threatening rapid water accumulation and many landslides," advised weather authorities.

Jamaican Prime Minister the statesman said: "I realize that there are many Jamaicans who are worried, who are extremely apprehensive, and with good reason: you should be concerned.

"Yet the optimal approach to manage anxiety and any apprehension and concern is to stay ready."

Inhabitants are being instructed to protect their properties with sandbags and wooden boards, and to stock up on necessary supplies.

Advisories are also ongoing for regions of the neighboring country including the primary urban center, the Dominican Republic and the eastern part of Cuba, where this storm is projected to bring similar effects by the middle portion of the coming week.

Landslides currently triggered by the cyclone have resulted in two fatalities in Haiti, according to emergency services.

Projected Trajectory

The hurricane is projected to move across Cuba by Wednesday before passing across the Antillas Mayores and entering the open ocean.

By the time it arrives at Cuba, it is predicted to have reduced to a category three cyclone.
